Storm for Western Canada and Washington on March 24-25

Summary

A strong storm will bring significant snowfall to Western Canada and Northern Washington on Tuesday-Wednesday, while the rest of the Western U.S. will remain in a dry and unseasonably warm pattern. The Northeast will continue to hang onto chilly temperatures with additional snow showers this week.

Short Term Forecast

After being hit with warm temperatures and heavy rain last week, Western Canada and Washington will see a welcome colder storm this week, with significant snowfall expected on Tuesday and Wednesday. The BC Coast Range and Washington Cascades will pick up 10-20 inches of snow, while the BC Interior and Canadian Rockies are looking at 6-14 inches.

Forecast for Monday (March 23):

It will be a relatively quiet start to the week with snow confined to the Northern Coast Range in BC, while Quebec and New England will also see lingering snow showers as a storm exits the area.

Forecast for Tuesday (March 24):

A storm will make landfall in the Northwest, with heavy snow developing across BC, Alberta, and the Northern Washington Cascades. A weak storm will also move into the Upper Midwest with light snow for the UP of Michigan as well as Ontario.

Forecast for Wednesday (March 25):

A storm will continue across the Northwest with more snow for BC, Alberta, and Washington. A weak storm in the Northeast will also bring light snow to Ontario and Quebec, and to a lesser extent, Northern New England.

Forecast for Thursday (March 26):

A follow-up weaker storm will move through the Northwest with additional light refills for Washington, BC, and Alberta. A stronger storm will move across the Northeast with snow favoring Ontario and Quebec, while the UP of Michigan and New England will also be in play for some light snow.

Forecast for Friday (March 27):

The storm track will relax a bit over the Northwest, but further north, more snow is expected across the Northern Coast Range in BC. In the East, lingering snow showers are also possible across Eastern Canada and New England.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Sat (Mar 28) to Wed (Apr 1):

A relatively active pattern with near-seasonal temperatures is expected to continue across the Northwest U.S. and Western Canada, though storms are projected to be on the weaker side.

Further south, this period will start out with continued unseasonable warmth, but we are seeing some signs of a more active pattern for the Sierra and the Rockies as the calendar flips to April.

In the East, above-average temperatures are expected across the Upper Midwest and Mid-Atlantic. Whereas, New England and Eastern Canada will likely hang onto below-average temperatures, though a drier pattern with only light snowfall potential is also expected.

Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Wednesday.
