Snowy Weekend for New England & Eastern Canada

Summary

A record-setting March warm spell will continue across the Western U.S. while winter will continue to hang on in the Northeast. Two storms will bring significant snow to Northern New England & Quebec this weekend, with temperatures staying below average. Next week, a storm is possible for Western Canada and the PNW, while the rest of the West stays warm and dry.

Short Term Forecast

Two storms will impact the Northeast over the next five days, bringing late-season powder to Northern New England, Upstate New York, Quebec, and Eastern Canada. Many ski resorts in this region are looking at a total of 10-20 inches of snow through March 24th. A nice bonus cycle in what has been an excellent season!

Forecast for Friday (March 20):

The first storm will move into the Northeast with snow developing across Quebec, Upstate New York, and Northern New England.

This will be the last day of a multi-day warm storm across Western Canada, and snow levels will remain high with rain expected for most ski resorts. A cold front will eventually arrive at the end of the storm, but conditions will dry out behind the front in most areas.

Forecast for Saturday (March 21):

Snow will begin to taper off across Northern New England on Saturday morning but will linger a bit longer across Eastern Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

Snow showers will also start to taper off across Western Canada in the wake of a cold front, with the Canadian Rockies looking at higher snow totals early on Saturday.

Forecast for Sunday (March 22):

In the West, a storm will bring heavy snow to Northern BC and light snow to Southern BC, while conditions mostly stay dry across the Western U.S.

In the East, another storm will bring snow to Northern New England, Upstate New York, and Quebec.

Forecast for Monday (March 23):

In the West, snow will continue to favor Northern BC with fewer and lighter snow showers at most for Southern BC.

In the Northeast and New England, there is some uncertainty regarding how much snow falls on the backside of the storm on Monday, but at the very least, additional light snow is expected early in the day.

Forecast for Tuesday (March 24):

A stronger storm will make landfall in the Northwest with heavy snow possible across British Columbia and Washington. In the East, a weaker storm is projected to move into Ontario, while lingering light snow showers will remain possible over New England.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Wed (Mar 25) to Sun (Mar 29):

Temperatures will remain well above average across most of the Western U.S., with mostly dry conditions expected to continue.

However, the pattern does look cooler and more active across Western Canada and the far Northwest U.S., with snow possible around March 25th and 29th, roughly speaking.

The Upper Midwest and the Northwest will see below-average temperatures along with a continued active storm track. Longer range models are hinting at a possible snow event from the Northern Great Lakes into Northern New England around March 26th-27th.

Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Monday (March 23).
