A boost of Snow Ahead Of A Sunny Final Weekend

Summary

The final week of the season brings varied conditions, starting with rain showers on Wednesday, turning to snow, peaking on Thursday with blizzard conditions and 5–20 cm of fresh powder. This late-season boost sets the scene for a fine, warmer weekend, as conditions settle for the grand finales at Mt Buller, Hotham, and Falls Creek on Sunday.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Wednesday 1st to Friday 3rd October

Wednesday brings showers with snow lowering to 1500–1600 m before clearing in the evening under strong northwesterlies. Thursday sees snow spreading across the Australian Alps with gale winds and blizzard conditions, which ease at night with 5–20 cm of fresh snow. Friday will be cloudy with afternoon snow flurries turning wet and drizzly lower down, as strong southwesterlies ease.

Forecast for Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th October

Saturday brings sunny skies with shifting winds, followed by a fine, warm Sunday with high cloud and strengthening northwest breezes.

Extended Forecast

Monday (6th October) sees Thredbo and Perisher close the season with a final rainy front and easing winds, while a strong, showery westerly flow dominates the week with no significant snow.
