Showers, Snow, And Gale Winds Ahead

Summary

The Australian Alps will start the week with light snow on Monday, followed by cloudy skies, drizzle, and occasional high-elevation flurries. Strong west-to-northwest winds are expected Thursday and Friday, with gale-force gusts likely to impact lift operations.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Monday 22nd & Tuesday 23rd September

Monday brings snow showers down to the base with fresh powder, followed by a cloudy, drizzly day on Tuesday as winds ease and shift west.

Forecast for Wednesday 24th to Friday 26th September

Wednesday will be cloudy with light rain or drizzle, turning to snow on upper slopes, accompanied by brisk west-to-southwest winds. Thursday remains grey with drizzle and flurries, while severe-gale west-to-northwest winds may disrupt lift operations in exposed areas. Friday sees rain showers and continued gale-to-severe gale winds, especially in Victoria, impacting lifts.

 

Extended Forecast

Winds ease and skies clear this weekend under high pressure, with a storm likely to hit the Australian Alps early next week, bringing rain and snow.
