Cold Fronts Deliver a Little Late-Season Snow

Summary

After a sunny, frosty Thursday, Friday turns wet and windy with a cold change overnight. Fresh snow arrives Saturday and Monday, with wet snow showers Sunday, before high pressure brings nicer conditions Tuesday.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Friday 19th & Saturday 20th September

Friday sees strengthening northwest winds with morning showers and heavier rain later, followed by a cold westerly change bringing overnight snow. On Saturday, snow showers ease, leaving up to 5 cm of fresh snow as strong westerlies gradually die down.

Forecast for Sunday 21st to Tuesday 23rd September

Sunday brings snow showers to the Australian Alps, turning wet at lower elevations as snow levels rise, with west-to-northwest winds. Monday sees an early southwest change delivering a few centimetres of fresh snow. On Tuesday, clouds clear and south-to-southwest winds ease as a high-pressure ridge approaches.

Extended Forecast

High pressure will dominate until the month’s end, though a few cold fronts late next week may bring occasional rain, snow, and strong winds.
