Mostly Sunny With Some Gale Force Winds Friday

Summary

This week in the Australian Alps will see a mix of sunny spells and rain, with fronts passing through on Tuesday and Friday. Strong northwesterly winds will lash the ranges, bringing gales alongside the rain. The first front will leave a light dusting of snow on upper slopes, while cold air following Friday’s front is expected to trigger several days of snowfall.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Monday 15th to Wednesday 17th September

Monday will be sunny with strengthening northwest winds. Tuesday brings gale-force northwest winds and rain with a light dusting of snow on upper slopes, clearing by Wednesday for mostly sunny skies and easing winds.

Forecast for Thursday 18th & Friday 19th September

Thursday will be mostly sunny with northwest winds, while Friday sees a strong front bringing rain, strengthening northwest gales, and snow developing overnight.

Extended Forecast

Strong, cold westerly winds will deliver fresh snow to the Australian Alps this weekend and early next week, boosting the snowpack. Warmer temperatures and high pressure are expected to take over in the latter half of next week.
