Northern Storm to Dump a Load of Powder Wed into Thu

Summary

The snowpack has held firm after Sunday night’s rain, giving great spring conditions to start the week. Today, rain will turn to snow as a low passes north of the Australian Alps, with heavy falls expected before easing Thursday, leaving 20–40cm (though Mt Buller may only see 5–10cm). Fresh powder should hold through the weekend under high pressure, though northwest winds will strengthen Sunday.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Wednesday 10th & Thursday 11th September

A low on Wednesday will bring rain and high-level snow to the Australian Alps, with snow levels dropping to the base by evening as heavy snowfall sets in. By Thursday morning, snow will ease and clear, leaving deep powder under partly cloudy skies and easing southerlies.

Forecast for Friday 12th to Sunday 14th September

Friday starts fine but clouds spread east as southwest winds ease. Saturday is mostly sunny with light cloud, then Sunday sees increasing clouds with strengthening northwest winds.

Extended Forecast

Next week, strengthening northwest winds will bring a front on Tuesday, September 16th, causing rain followed by a cold change and light snow. Another storm, with stronger winds, rain, and snow, is expected between Friday and Sunday, September 19–21.

Thanks for reading. The next forecast will be out on Friday.
