Some Snow & Sunshine in the Mix, Rain Hits Sunday

Summary

After last week’s 60–80 cm storm, conditions are excellent with plenty of sun. Snowy Hydro reports 220 cm at Spencer’s Creek, versus 75 cm this time last year. Midweek brings 5–20 cm of snow up high and clearing skies with cold southerlies by Friday. Saturday stays fine with northerly winds, but Sunday turns rough with strong winds and heavy rain.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Wednesday 3rd & Thursday 4th September

Wednesday brings showers and a few centimetres of snow above 1700–1900 m, with strong to gale northwesterly winds. Thursday sees 5–15 cm of snow down to 1500 m as a front passes, shifting winds cooler from late afternoon and dusting lower levels before clearing.

Forecast for Friday 5th & Saturday 6th September

Friday is sunny with cold southwest winds easing to the south-to-southeast. Saturday stays fine with some high cloud and northerly winds.

Forecast for Sunday 7th & Monday 8th September

Sunday brings heavy rain and severe gale north winds in exposed areas, making conditions rough. Monday sees showers clear as northwest winds ease.

Extended Forecast

Models show uncertainty for Tuesday 9th to Thursday 11th September, with a possible storm starting wet and warm and ending cold with snow, though timing and impact remain unclear. High pressure is expected to bring a settled end to the week.
