Storm Delivers Deep Powder, Mid-to-Upper Snow Showers Coming Up

Summary

The Storm of the Season dumped 60–80 cm for winter’s finale, likely pushing Spencer’s Creek past 2 m, compared to just 75 cm this time last year. The coming days bring weaker systems, with showers Tuesday through Thursday as snow levels rise from 1500 m to 1800 m. A cold southerly change late Thursday may allow snowmaking to resume.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Monday 1st to Wednesday 3rd September

Monday will be mostly fine with easing west–southwest winds, while Tuesday brings sunshine to NSW, building clouds in Victoria, and light showers turning to snow above 1500 m. By Wednesday, showers spread across Victoria with snow above 1600–1700 m and strong to gale-force northwesterlies.

Forecast for Thursday 4th & Friday 5th September

On Thursday, strong to gale-force winds continue with building showers, snow levels starting around 1600–1700 m before a cold southwest change overnight brings a light dusting of snow to lower areas. On Friday, lingering snow showers at Mt Baw Baw gradually clear, with clouds dissipating elsewhere under chilly southwest winds.

Extended Forecast

While long-range models vary, the weekend looks promising for fine weather ahead of a surge of warm northerlies and rain on Monday, 8th August. From Tuesday night through the rest of the week, a larger storm system is expected, starting with rain and then transitioning to snow.

Thanks for reading. The next forecast will be out on Wednesday.
