Halfway Through the Storm

Summary

Resorts have gained 20–30cm so far in the Storm of the Season, with Perisher adding nearly 20cm since Thursday. Another 20–35cm+ is expected as the storm peaks Friday into Saturday, aided by strong northwesterlies. A southerly change on Saturday leaves lingering snow for Victoria into early next week, while New South Wales clears to sunshine and deep powder to start spring.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Friday 29th & Saturday 30th August

Friday brings heavy snow with blizzard conditions, though it may turn wet below 1600m as gale to severe gale northwesterlies hit exposed areas. On Saturday, a strong southerly change eases snowfall to showers that gradually clear, lingering on Mt Baw Baw into the evening.

Forecast for Sunday 31st August to Tuesday 2nd September

Sunday brings lingering snow showers in Victoria, especially at Mt Baw Baw and Mt Buller, while NSW stays dry and sunny. Monday and Tuesday are partly sunny with the chance of rain and snow showers in Victoria as winds ease then turn northwest.

Extended Forecast

Next week will see a weak front bringing showers on Wednesday (3rd September), followed by a stronger system Friday–Saturday (5th-6th September) with rain, snow, strong northerlies, and a cold change.

Thanks for reading. The next forecast will be out on Monday.
