Big Storm Cycle Starts Next Week

Summary

Fresh powder early in the week gave way to clear, cold days before northeast winds on Wed–Thu brought warmer temps, cloud, and light showers, softening snow in NSW. Friday sees a weak front, then cooler temps Saturday should allow snowmaking before high pressure clears things for sunny skies Sunday and Monday. Northwesterlies strengthen Tuesday ahead of a major storm cycle.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd August

Cloudy with drizzle Friday, then Saturday brings showers at Mt Baw Baw but mostly partly sunny, partly cloudy conditions elsewhere with easing southwest winds.

Forecast for Sunday 24th to Tuesday 26th August

Sunday and Monday bring clear, sunny skies with light breezes, making for great conditions. By Tuesday, clouds and strong northwest winds build, with rain spreading across the Alps late in the day.

Extended Forecast

A series of Southern Ocean lows will bring stormy conditions next week, with rain turning to snow from Aug 27–28 and continuing into early September, potentially laying down a solid spring snowpack.

Thanks for reading. The next forecast will be out on Monday.
