Just a Little Bit of Muck as we Transition to the Next High

Summary

After 10–20 cm of weekend powder, a high-pressure ridge has delivered clear, calm and cold conditions to start the week. As the high drifts east, northeast winds will bring increasing cloud and a few light showers to NSW today and Thursday, reaching Victoria on Friday with a weak front. A new high will then build over the weekend, clearing skies and bringing another run of fine days.

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Wednesday 20th to Friday 22nd August

On Wednesday, east to northeast winds bring cloud and light showers to NSW with flurries above 1800 m, while Victoria stays clear with lighter winds. Cloud increases across both states on Thursday, then Friday turns windier and brings light rain or drizzle, particularly in Victoria.

Forecast for Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th August

Saturday brings partly cloudy skies and the chance of a light shower (mainly around Mt Baw Baw), before a mainly sunny and calm day on Sunday.

Extended Forecast

Next week, a new storm cycle will likely hit the Aussie Alps from Tuesday, August 26th, through the weekend, driven by a large low-pressure system over the Southern Ocean. Snowfall will fluctuate between snow and rain, but overall, lower slopes should get a solid top-up while upper slopes see heavier accumulations as winds shift from warm northwest to colder south-southwest.

Thanks for reading. The next forecast will be out on Friday.
