NEW: Radar + Precipitation Type

The radar maps in OpenSnow now include precipitation type to help you track rain, snow, and mixed precipitation ahead of and during storms.

  • Green: Rain
  • Yellow: Moderate Rain
  • Red: Heavy Rain
  • Blue: Snow

Getting Started

  1. Go to the "Maps" tab in OpenSnow.
  2. Tap the blue overlays button in the bottom right.
  3. Tap any "Radar" overlay.
  4. Play or scrub the bottom slider.

View → OpenSnow Radar

How often do the OpenSnow radar maps update?

  • Current US Radar: Every 4 minutes
  • Current Global Radar: Every 10 minutes
  • Forecast US Radar: Every 60 minutes
  • Global Storm Forecast: Every 12 hours (Premium only)

What about Super-Res Radar?

Super-Res Radar does not include precipitation type.

This is the highest-resolution raw radar data available from 159 stations across the continental United States, updating every 3-4 minutes.

Super-Res Radar, in combination with our StormNet model, is optimized for tracking severe weather.
