March 2026 Snowpack Update

The snowpack across the West was at record-low levels following a significant heat wave during the second half of March.

The map below shows the percentage of snowpack compared to the 1991-2020 median snowpack for March 31, 2026.

Blue is well above normal, green and yellow are near to below normal, and red is well below normal. This map is based on the weight of the snow on the ground, measured by automated backcountry weather stations called SNOTEL.
