Storms Continue to Favor the Northwest

Summary

An active storm track will favor the Northwest, Northern Rockies, & Canada this week, though snow levels will be on the rise later this week as warmer air arrives. The storm track will also dip further south mid-week, with Tahoe picking up some snow. An active pattern will also continue across New England with multiple rounds of snow this week across the higher terrain.

Short Term Forecast

An active pattern will favor the Northwest this week, though the arrival of warmer air will lead to rising snow levels and lower mountain rain at some ski resorts. Ski areas favored for some of the higher snow totals over the next 5 days include Whistler, Whitewater, Revelstoke, Crystal, Hood Meadows, Bachelor, and Jackson Hole.

Forecast for Mon (Nov 3) to Mon Night:

A weak storm will bring light snow to the Northwest and Northern Rockies, but snow levels will be low thanks to a colder airmass in place. A cold front will also move across the Northeast on Monday evening with rain changing to snow across the higher terrain of New York and New England.

Forecast for Tue (Nov 4) to Tue Night:

Light snow will fall across the Northern Rockies on Tuesday, then the next storm will reach the West Coast on Tuesday night with snow and rain developing over Washington and Oregon. Snow levels will be on the rise as warmer air arrives with this storm. Snow showers will also continue across New England.

Forecast for Wed (Nov 5) to Wed Night:

The next storm will dig a bit further south and will cover a larger area with snow and rain developing across the Sierra Nevada Range, including Tahoe. Heavier snow is expected in British Columbia, especially over higher terrain in the Coast Range, while the Northern Rockies will also pick up some light snow.

Another storm will move into New England and New York from the northwest, with more snow expected across the Adirondacks and Northern New England.

Forecast for Thu (Nov 6) to Thu Night:

Snow will fall across the Central Rockies during the day on Thursday, including some light accumulations for Utah and Colorado. Another strong storm will impact the Northwest with snow, favoring mid to high elevation terrain in BC, while snowfall will be limited at ski resorts in Washington and Oregon due to high snow levels.

Lingering snow showers and flurries can be expected across New York and New England on the backside of Wednesday's storm.

Forecast for Fri (Nov 7) to Fri Night:

The Western storm will continue on Friday, and snow levels will also begin to drop as colder air arrives. Heavy snow will also develop across the Northern Rockies as the storm tracks eastward, favoring the Tetons and Northwest Wyoming.

In the East, New England will see a break in the pattern while parts of Ontario and Quebec could see light to moderate snow, mainly north of the St. Lawrence River.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Sat (Nov 8) to Wed (Nov 12):

High pressure will re-emerge over the Central Rockies into California, with a warming and drying trend expected. To the north, an active storm track will continue across the Northwest and Canada with snow favoring mid to high elevation terrain in BC, while mild air and high snow levels could be an issue at times in Washington and Oregon.

A trough-dominant pattern is also expected across the East with below-normal temperatures along with an active storm track. New England and New York will be favored for more snow at ski resort elevations, while the Upper Midwest and Mid-Atlantic could see some flakes as well.

Looking further out, there are some signs that a more active pattern could develop across the Western U.S. around mid-November, including Tahoe, Utah, and Colorado. We'll be keeping an eye on this as we get closer, so stay tuned...

Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Wednesday (November 5).
