Spring Storms Continue, Heavy Rain Wed turn to Snow Thu

Short Term Forecast

Forecast for Monday 15th & Tuesday 17th September

On Monday, the South Island sees cloud, showers, and gale northwesterlies, while Ruapehu gets rain and mid- to upper-level snow in southwest winds. Tuesday brings sun and cloud with strengthening northwest gales in the South Island, as showers clear Ruapehu by evening.

Forecast for Wednesday 17th to Friday 19th September

Wednesday brings heavy rain, gales, and rising snow levels to South Island ski fields, easing to showers and lowering snow later, while Ruapehu sees cloud, rain, and high snow. On Thursday, the Southern Lakes pick up 2–10cm before clearing, Canterbury gets a brief dusting, and Ruapehu turns colder with lowering snow. By Friday, the South Island is sunny under high pressure, and Ruapehu clears after an early southerly.
